International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements

On December 5, 2019 an official closing ceremony of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements took place in Prince Hotel, Tokio, Japan.
Many countries all over the world held events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the discovery by Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev of the Periodic Law of Chemical Elements. Exhibitions, festivals, conferences, presentations, artistic competitions, quizzes, etc. were organised in Russia, France, Germany, Spain, the USA, Japan, the RSA, India, Great Britain and many other counties.
Kohei Tamao, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Year of the Periodic Table in Japan, Natalia Tarasova, former President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Co-chairman of the IYPT International Committee, Grigory Trubnikov, First Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia and other representatives of the international scientific community took part in the IYPT closing ceremony.
The reports delivered at the Closing ceremony were mostly devoted to the Periodic Table and its further development. Alexander Sergeev, President of the RAS addressed his speech mostly to the young researchers making an example of Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev's personality. Makoto Kobayashi, 2008 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics and Akira Yoshino, 2019 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry delivered their speeches as well. Sir Martyn Poliakoff, a world-known science popularizer, Vice-President of the Royal Society, addressed the audience in his video message.
